YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK 142 YEARS OLD! HAPPY BIRTHDAY

HAPPY BIRTHDAY YELLOWSTONE

On this date 142 years ago Yellowstone National Park became this Nation's first National Park.  It was established "For the benefit and enjoyment of the people".

The Forty Second Congress of the United States approved an act to set apart a certain tract of land lying near the headwaters of the Yellowstone River as a National Park.
Click on the link above to see a transcript of the Act.

A portion of the Act states that "the Secretary of the Interior shall have exclusive control and may establish rules and regulations for the care and management of the park.  These regulations shall provide for the preservation, from injury or spoilation, of all timber, mineral deposits, natural curiosities, or wonders within said park, and their retention in their natural condition."I have para-phrased the wording in the Act.

If you have never visited our First National Park then put it on your "bucket list" and come see it in the near future.
