THE GALLATIN CANYON

River In The Gallatin Canyon

Highway 191 from Bozeman, Montana to West Yellowstone will take you through the Gallatin Canyon. This is a beautiful drive at any time of the year, although in the winter it can be treacherous.

Normally the river that runs through the Gallatin Canyon is crystal clear. At this time of year with all the snow melt going on in the high mountains it gets just a bit dirty.

However, if what you are looking for in the way of excitement is a white-water rafting trip, the picture above should give you some idea of what you will find in the Gallatin Canyon at this time of year.

There are several companies located in Big Sky that offer raft trips through the Gallatin Canyon.

In a few weeks the water will begin to clear up and once again as you make the drive down 191 from Bozeman to West Yellowstone you will be driving along a beautiful crystal clear river for most of the way.
