MEET CORAM AT THE DISCOVERY CENTER

MEET CORAM

Say hello to Coram one of the residents of the Grizzly and Wolf Discovery Center in West Yellowstone, Montana.

Coram has resided at the Discovery Center since September 6, 2011. He is a three year old grizzly who weighs between 350 and 450 pounds.

He is named after the Montana town where he was captured. He unfortunately became habituated to human food and garbage. Due to the lack of food for him in 2010 and 2011 he began seeking out human food in town.

When he and his family left the den that next spring he headed right to town again. He had been seen several times boldly walking through the town searching for human food in the residential areas. Reports were made about a bear in town walking up onto peoples porches and getting into the dog food. When it was discovered that this three-year-old bear had been trapped in town a third time, the wildlife management decided that they had to face the fact that he just was not going to learn. For his safety and the safety of the humans in the area he had to be relocated and removed from the wild.

The Discovery Center was more than happy to give Coram a home. According to the Keepers at the Discovery Center he has been introduced to both Spirit and to Sow 101 and they seem to be a good mix and enjoy being together in the habitat.

Be sure to check the schedule at the Discovery Center and see what time of day Coram will be in the habitat so you can go pay him a visit.
