SAY HELLO TO SPIRIT

THIS IS SPIRIT

The first Montana grizzly to be placed at the Discovery Center was a mother named "Easy". She was given the name of "Easy" because of her easy-going personality. The beach or golf course near the community of Whitefish, Montana was an area that she was fond of frequenting.

She had obtained human food and unfortunately was passing this behavior on to both of her cubs. Even though she had never demonstrated any aggressive behavior toward humans, everyone knew this was still a dangerous situation.

After one of her cubs was hit by car and killed, authorities decided it would be best to send the other cub to the zoo in Denver and remove Easy from the wild permanently. The fact that she had previously been relocated at least six times and kept returning to the area was a large factor in the decision to remove her from the wild.

At the Discovery Center her name was changed to Spirit in honor of the spiritual significance that grizzlies have too many of the Native Americans.

Stop by the Discovery Center and pay her a visit when you are in town.
